The train crosses the Limpopo River to Musina. In Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, the ‘Elephant’s Child’ departs his family for the “great grey-green, greasy Limpopo River, all set about with fever-trees, to find out what the Crocodile has for dinner.”

Travel through Warm baths (Bela-Bela) – so named for its mineral waters – and Nylstroom, christened by the Voortrekkers as the source of the Nile River as the town’s river happened to be north flowing. Pass the edge of the escarpment where the Highveld drops precipitously.

This is truly Nature’s supreme masterpiece, and the sheer power of the Falls will inspire and humble every visitor. Look out for the Big Tree, and various points of historic interest pointed out by your Guides, who will also provide fascinating detail of the flora, fauna, bird and wildlife that surround your Vic Falls experience. The Shearwater Bridge Tour, led by our enthusiastic team of guides, takes you through the history of this remarkable structure, from its design and initial prefabrication in England, to its construction in Africa. The bridge, an engineering masterpiece and revolutionary for its time, was central to Cecil John Rhodes’ vision of a Cape to Cairo railway and its history is entertaining, tragic, and transfixing in equal measure.
