No trip to the Chobe or Zambezi rivers would be complete without trying your hand at fishing from a small boat. These particular waters are home to the notorious Tigerfish that have teeth that could take your fingers off in a flash (but you won’t allow that to happen, will you!)
Expect an almighty contest when you hook one of these mad fighters, as they leap and pull and jump again…a true delight for every serious or amateur angler. Tigers can be taken on fly or on the traditional spinner or spoon. Our fishing guides have grown up in this area and know exactly where to take you for the best options for landing one of these extraordinary fish. We practice ‘capture and release’ for Tiger, but adopt the ‘hook and cook’ concept when going after the delicious fresh water bream (tilapia) that flourish in these tepid waters.
Don’t forget camera batteries and enough memory to record unforgettable moments, as well as a large hat and sunscreen. We provide the rest…and you’ll have the happiest day out there on the Flood Plains or gliding down the mighty Zambezi. Tight lines!

Price: $135 per boat, 3hrs – thereafter at $25 per hour – Max 3 passengers per boat.
Includes: You’ll be accompanied by an experienced guide who’ll offer soft drinks, local beers and water. We provide all required tackle and organise a fishing licence. Fishing mainly takes place both on the Chobe River and up the Kasai Channel leading you to the Zambezi.
N.B. Lost tackle will be billed to you as an extra at cost price.

Enjoy: Like the South American piranha, individual tigerfish have interlocking, razor-sharp teeth, along with streamlined, muscular bodies and are extremely aggressive and capable predators that often hunt in groups. It’s the first freshwater fish recorded and confirmed to attack and catch birds in flight.

When: Fishing trips are available from Kasane’s Cresta Mowana Resort daily.
Where: Our experienced guide will meet you at the entrance to the Cresta Mowana. He’ll then accompany you to the jetty directly below the resort.
Time: You may go fishing at any time from 06:30 and back by 16:00, the river deadline.
What to Pack? Passport required. Binoculars will always enhance any game-viewing experience en route and will be a real boon for bird lovers, who will be more than thrilled with the many species that come and go in this region. You will of course come with long lenses for greater distance images. Don’t forget extra batteries. Sunscreen and lip balm are more than helpful in these dry conditions and carrying ‘wet wipes’ are ideal for freshening up your face, neck and hands. Sunglasses will soften the glare – especially in the middle of the day. A wide-brimmed hat is also recommended. Do bring along small packets of tissues. In cooler months (periodically late May through September) we advise bringing a jacket, jersey or shawl. We offer blankets and ponchos.
