Kadizora Camp truly offers the ultimate Okavango Delta experience, with a wide range of activities, a beautiful location, diverse wildlife and warm, local hospitality.
Day 7:
You’ll awake to enjoy a final, delicious breakfast at Kadizora Camp, where after you will depart by scenic light aircraft to Nxai Pan Camp.
The minimalistic white-washed design of the camp is in keeping with the surrounding white salt pans. Nxai Pan accommodates a maximum of eighteen guests in nine thatched units specially designed to provide a constant and comfortable temperature throughout the year, when seasonal temperatures can fluctuate from below freezing to well over 45 degrees Celsius.
The main areas of the camp include an expansive open-air lounge and dining area, with a bar, pool and curio shop.
Nxai Pan is a 100% solar-operated camp.
The camp’s tents face the waterhole, with the main area being the central best place for game viewing from the water hole. Frequent visitors to the water hole include elephants, cheetah, as well as the migratory herds of zebra (usually) from late December to early April, however this is entirely dependent on the summer rainfall in Botswana which affects the migratory cycle.
Day 8:
Today you enjoy activities on offer at camp. Game drives (day) and bushmen experience with guide and tracker. We also offer star gazing.
The camp operates game drives using a guide and tracker, this adds to the experience on two levels. You have two sets of eyes searching out the action, looking for tracks – this ensures a good chance of sightings, especially predators. In addition,
having the tracker concentrating on tracking means that the guide is more able to talk to clients, keep them informed and answer all their questions, it leads to a more relaxed, convivial game drive atmosphere.
As well as game drives, we offer a day trip to see the famous Baines’ Baobabs – they are truly majestic, sentinels standing tall on the edge of the salt pan.
As Nxai Pan is within a national park we must follow their regulations. The area is ecologically sensitive and as such we are not permitted to drive at night nor off road.
We do offer nature walks and star gazing here, in addition to the game drives. The nature walks are led by one of the Bushmen trackers. It is a fascinating experience where we take a step towards learning and understanding how it is possible to survive in such a hostile environment – we get a glimpse into the way of life and beliefs of the original inhabitants of the Kalahari Desert.
The pans were once part of the super lake that covered much of central Botswana, including Lake Ngami and the Okavango Delta.
The landscape is largely covered by grassland and dotted with clusters of umbrella acacia trees and mopane woodland to the north. During the rains, from November to late March, the landscape changes to lush green, the pans become covered in succulent grasses which attract large herds of antelope. Bird life during this period is prolific, many species being different to what one would see in the Delta – it is a birders paradise.
The area is well known for large numbers of springbok and elephant and during rainy season zebra migrate to the region. Giraffe and oryx are also often seen in the area in large herds with up to 30 in a group. These large herds attract many predators – lion, cheetah, jackal, spotted and brown hyena and sometimes the endangered wild dog and the secretive leopard.
Day 9:
You’ll awake to enjoy a final, delicious breakfast at Nxai Pan Camp, where after you will depart by scenic light aircraft to Tau Pan Camp in the Central Kalahari.
‘Tau’ which means lion in Setswana, is so named for the pride of iconic black-maned Kalahari lions who frequent the camp (with a preference for the family tent!).
Tau Pan is the first semi-permanent camp inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and offers truly incredible views from the elevated ridge of an ancient sand dune, an unusual experience in a land as flat as Botswana, and overlooks the famous Tau Pan – recognised for its stark beauty and remoteness.
Day 10:
Today you enjoy activities on offer at camp.
Activities offered at Tau Pan are game drives, day trips to the well-known Deception Valley, Sunday, Piper and Passarge Pans, star gazing, and nature walks with Bushman trackers.
We operate our game drives using a guide and tracker, this adds to the experience on two levels. You have two sets of eyes searching out the action, looking for tracks – this ensures a good chance of sightings, especially predators. In addition, having the tracker out front, concentrating on tracking, means that the guide is more able to talk to clients, keep them informed and answer all their questions, it leads to a more relaxed, convivial game drive atmosphere.
As Tau Pan is within a national park, we must follow the regulations. The area is ecologically sensitive and as such we are not permitted to drive at night nor off road. In addition to game drives we do offer informative nature walks with our trackers who are all Bushmen from the Central Kalahari – a worthwhile experience.
Species that can be found in the Kalahari include oryx, the desert-adapted springbok, jackals, the rare brown hyena, red-crested Korhaan and herds of wildebeest.
Day 11: Return
You’ll awake to enjoy a final, delicious breakfast in the Central Kalahari, before departing by light aircraft to Maun Airport for your return flight to Johannesburg.
BOTSWANA – Chobe
The Chobe River is a tributary of the Zambezi River, the confluence of which is just above the Vic Falls. Close proximity, however, does not result in ‘sameness.’ Indeed, the Chobe reveals a bird and animal sanctuary of such abundance that seeing is, believing.
Here you’ll encounter many hundreds of bird species. It’s a natural stopover point during spring and autumn migrations, an unbelievable sight. Vast animal herds, such as elephant (it’s not uncommon to see 500 to 1000 elephant on the floodplains at a time), buffalo and buck, make for incomparable game viewing. Life on the river and in the adjoining game reserve will capture your imagination quite indelibly
BOTSWANA – Khwai
On the outskirts of the beautifully preserved Moremi Game Reserve, is a wildlife-prolific & varied ecosystem which provides a patchwork of lagoons, shallow flooded pans, open grass plains and woodland forests. The Khwai area is without a doubt one of the most scenic areas in Botswana.
The Khwai Concession is a 1800km area which is situated in the north-eastern Okavango next to the Moremi Game Reserve. It was
formed by the local Khwai villagers and is managed by the Khwai Development Trust. The villagers took over the area when they moved out of the Moremi region when the Moremi Game Reserve was formed.
The local community now runs ecotourism initiatives, actively conserve the environment and manage the wildlife in the concession.
BOTSWANA – Okavango Delta
One of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, The Okavango Delta is a unique African geographic enclave with watery ‘veins’ that create open swampland amid dense tropical forests and raw bushveld. Abundant waters in the area are seasonal, but there are always inestimable volumes of wild animals and a birdlife that is reason enough to visit this ‘Paradise Untamed’. The place, the wildlife and luxury stays make for exceptional emotional and spiritual gratification. Few visitors to this area can resist returning.
BOTSWANA – Nxai Pan
The fossil pans of Nxai Pan offer spectacular, seasonal game-viewing in the rainy season (November – March). Huge herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Springbok and Gemsbok attract many predators – Lion, Cheetah and both brown and spotted Hyena. There are large numbers of Bat Eared Fox, which preys on rodents and reptiles.
This is one of the few areas in Botswana that is more interesting during the rainy season – when huge herds hit Nxai’s grassy pans. The numbers can be staggering; wildebeest, zebra and gemsbok appear in their thousands, along with large herds of other Antelope and Giraffe. Perhaps the focal point of Nxai Pan is the water hole, amid a large grassy plain which is dotted with a few clumps of short umbrella thorn trees.
BOTSWANA – Tau Pan
‘Tau’ which means lion in Setswana, is so named for the pride of iconic black-maned Kalahari lions who frequent the camp (with a preference for the family tent!).
Tau Pan is the first semi-permanent camp inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and offers truly incredible views from the elevated ridge of an ancient sand dune, an unusual experience in a land as flat as Botswana, and overlooks the famous Tau Pan – recognised for its stark beauty and remoteness.
