The Chobe Explorer, was built to relax, slow down and soak up the beauty of the incredible wetland that is the Chobe. The wonder of experiencing a safari lodge floating on the Chobe.
The Explorer departs from the Flame of Africa dock, behind the Spar in Kasane, at 11h00 am every morning. An on-board greeting is to be had from our smiling team with welcoming freshly baked pastries, tea and coffee.
The adventure begins when the Explorer sets off to follow the shoreline where the “twitchers” must keep a sharp lookout for a number of lifers. The bird count along the Chobe river is currently sitting at 460 species. For our guests that love the larger creatures the Chobe, she is home to the largest elephant herd in the world (with claims that the last count hit 160 000 plus animals)
Lunch is included and served in the downstairs restaurant area where a traditional braai (barbeque) lunch mouth-wateringly awaits. Our vegetarian options are especially sought after. Lunched and contented, the comfortable lounge area is among the best to stumble upon or if you are among the brave, our secret top deck has suspended shaded sun loungers and an elevated game viewing vista begging for an afternoon siesta. To complete our special cruise, we dawdle home, sundowners in hand, just in time to watch the African sun bid us farewell.

A fabulous way to see wildlife in the Chobe area. Spacious, comfortable and peaceful game viewing. All we needed to bring was binoculars and the rest was provided by the wonderful Flame of Africa team. Wonderful tour thank you Sarufu and Brett Mc!!

An incredible day of wildlife-viewing under serene Botswana skies. Chobe Explorer.
This is the ideal way to view the animals that congregate on the banks of the Chobe River. Safunu and the rest of the staff were excellent and I especially appreciate his assistance with bird identification. The lunch was delicious and the second deck very comfortable for lounging and conversation as we took in the sights. Even better views available on the top deck, but bring your sunscreen!
What a great time we had on this amazing cruise. This amazing beauty offers 7hrs of luxury dining whilst cruising the Chobe River.
It’s exactly what we needed after a few days of doing the traditional game drives and boat cruises.
Ronny and Captain David were a delight to have onboard.

The wow factor of seeing herds of elephants and other game along the Chobe river cannot be over emphasized. The triple story boat was silent and glided over the water. The departure point is in a somewhat dubious area. The staff on board were friendly, but Surufu the captain did not give much information or insight into the environment. Ronny who was supposed to be the barman was a disaster as he was more absent than present at his job station. The 7hours 15 minutes ride was super and the sunset a typical african sunset.

We had a great trip on the Chobe Explorer. We saw a ton of wildlife and there were some knowledgeable guides on the boat. We have 9 year old twins and everyone was very patient with them and ready to teach them about the wildlife. We shared the boat with a large group of retired travelers and had a great time getting to know each other.

What a great day! 7 hours we enjoyed with this great crew – “All Inclusive” were next to delicious food and all sorts of drinks a very friendly service and interesting, funny comments from the captain. We were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine, then we made ourselves comfortable on the ‘lounge deck’ (which is not difficult) with trips to the sundeck with its “hanging deck chairs” (all with sun roof). At slow speed we could then admire the elephants (river crossing!), Hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, various birds etc etc – I felt almost decadent, so with my AMARULA in my hand cuddled on a sofa overlooking the fascinating (Animal) World of Chobe …
